Marouane Fellaini: 'I will repay Jose Mourinho's faith'

Marouane Fellaini wants to use this weekend's Manchester derby showdown to once again prove his worth to Manchester United, having been given "the trust of the manager".

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has insisted that he will "give everything" he possibly can to repay the trust shown in him by manager Jose Mourinho.

The Belgium international has come under fire from supporters in the past due to his association with the disappointing David Moyes tenure at Old Trafford, yet still remains a key figure in the side.

Louis van Gaal used Fellaini heavily during his two years in charge, while Mourinho has started the 28-year-old in all three of United's league games this season and also in the Community Shield win over Leicester City.

Having reportedly been given the all-clear to feature in this weekend's huge showdown with rivals Manchester City, Fellaini has vowed to continue silencing his doubters if once again given the nod by Mourinho.

"Louis van Gaal trusted me; I played a lot of games. This season, though, I'm playing in my position and I feel the trust of the manager," he told Sky Sports News. "He has given me confidence and I will give everything.

"[Mourinho's faith] has had a big impact on me because when someone trusts you 200% you have to repay that. The manager knows my qualities, he knows what I can do.

"He spoke to me on the first day when I arrived back from holiday and I have worked hard like I do every time. I don't need to explain myself, all the managers I've had know my quality. I'm here today and I'm trying hard like I always do to give my best on the pitch."

Fellaini was on the scoresheet for United when they beat rivals City 4-2 in April 2015 to start their current three-match unbeaten run in the famous fixture.
