Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand plays down suggestions that the Premier League title race is over.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has insisted that the Premier League title race is not yet over.

The Red Devils opened up a five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table following Monday's win at Blackburn Rovers.

However, Ferdinand claims that the players are not taking anything for granted.

"The only thing on our minds is to win each game," he said. "We are not looking beyond that. It is a cliche and it is boring, but that is the way it is. Black and white.

"You just have to keep ticking off the boxes. We are in the position we would like to be in at this stage of the season but it is not over.

"There is a lot of football to be played between now and when the trophies are handed out."

United can temporarily open up an eight-point gap if they beat Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford on Sunday ahead of City's trip to Arsenal.
