Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane says that Red Devils playmaker Paul Pogba needs more experienced players around him to help the Old Trafford club improve.

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has suggested that Paul Pogba is suffering from a lack of experienced players around him at Old Trafford.

Pogba returned to United from Juventus for a world-record fee in 2016 but has since gone through a testing two seasons at the club, which have reportedly seen the Frenchman endure a fractured relationship with coach Jose Mourinho.

"I like him, I think he's a good player, a good kid," Republic of Ireland assistant Keane told reporters ahead of his country's friendly fixture with France. "He probably needs better help around him, good influences around the training ground."

"I was the luckiest man on the planet when I was a player. I always had good lads around me, senior players who led by example. Pogba probably doesn't have that at United.

"He's a good player. Would he feel he could have had a better season? Probably. Usually the good players are quite critical of themselves. When you play for Man United and you don't win a trophy you probably would be critical of yourself."

Pogba finished as United's top assist-maker in the Premier League this season, setting up 10 goals across a campaign that saw Mourinho's side finish second in the standings.
