Jose Mourinho dedicates Community Shield victory to Louis van Gaal

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho dedicates his side's Community Shield win to his predecessor Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has dedicated his side's Community Shield victory to his predecessor Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal was in charge as United earned their place in the traditional curtain-raiser with victory in the FA Cup last season, although that proved to be the Dutchman's final match at the helm.

Mourinho was quick to give credit to the former boss, though, while also dedicating the trophy to the players who didn't make his matchday squad at Wembley.

"I want to dedicate this victory to eight persons. Seven of my players who were not selected, because they weren't but they deserved to be," he told BT Sport.

"And for the person who allows us to be here today, which is Louis van Gaal, because he won the FA Cup and without him we wouldn't be here now celebrating."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the winning goal at Wembley after Jesse Lingard's opener had been cancelled out by Jamie Vardy.
