Paul Pogba: 'Manchester United can catch Manchester City'

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba insists that his side are capable of catching Premier League leaders Manchester City after closing the gap on their rivals.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has insisted that his side are capable of catching Premier League leaders Manchester City after closing the gap on their rivals to 12 points.

City's 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday - their first in domestic action this term - opened the door for Jose Mourinho's men to gain ground on Pep Guardiola's team.

United defeated struggling Stoke City 3-0 at Old Trafford, and French midfielder Pogba told Sky Sports News that the Red Devils are focused on reducing the arrears at the summit even further.

"Obviously we see Manchester City in front of us and they lost," the 24-year-old said. "They are first so we always want to catch them, so it was good that they lost, so for us we have to think about ourselves.

It's good that they lose points but we have to go back to winning because we want to catch them again. We're not looking to the past. We're just looking to the future and the next games.

"We just want to catch City. We just have to focus on ourselves, keep winning and I think we will be okay."

Pogba set up fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial for United's second goal against the Potters, who had new boss Paul Lambert watching on in the stands.
