Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim attempts to play down speculation linking him with a future move to Manchester United.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim says that he wants to refrain from becoming involved in any talk regarding a potential switch to Manchester United.

Ever since guiding Sporting to the 2020-21 Primeira Liga title, Amorim has been heavily linked with a wide array of different European clubs.

As it stands, though, the 38-year-old has remained with the Portuguese giants, with the current target being regaining their top-flight crown after finishing in fourth position in 2022-23.

Leoes currently sit three points clear of Benfica and Porto having put together a nine-game undefeated streak, yet their recent form has only kept Amorim in the spotlight.

With Erik ten Hag struggling at Man United, it has been suggested that club officials are beginning to consider potential replacements for a head coach that has overseen eight defeats in 15 games this season.

There are conflicting reports over the amount of time that the Dutchman may have to turn things around at Old Trafford ahead of important Premier League and Champions League fixtures at Fulham and Copenhagen respectively.

Courtesy of his previous links with vacancies at United, Amorim was naturally quizzed on the matter at a recent press conference, but he has made an effort to try to distance himself from the ongoing situation.

Speaking to reporters, as quoted by the Daily Mail, Amorim said: "This year I'm not going to go back to the same conversation as last year.

"I'm not going to make any kind of comment on these situations. We don't know the future, it depends on the results.

He added: "Regarding the future, I have an idea for the end of the season but I won't say it now. But the results and the context take us to something different.

"I don't want to be commenting on these things. I have not been contacted by Manchester United."

Although Amorim is said to have a release clause in his Sporting contract, a recent report suggested that United would have to shell out £15m to sack Ten Hag.

A recent report claimed that a number of United players have started to have doubts over Ten Hag, who has taken a hardline approach with some situations and has struggled to get his team playing a consistent style of football.
