Morgan Schweinsteiger hails "special" Manchester United debut

Bastian Schweinsteiger describes the "special feeling" of making his Manchester United debut.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has described the "special feeling" of making his Manchester United debut.

The German World Cup winner joined United for around £14m from Bayern Munich earlier this summer alongside Morgan Schneiderlin, as manager Louis van Gaal completed a double midfield coup on the same weekend.

Schweinsteiger made his United bow as a substitute in their opening-day victory over Tottenham Hotspur, and the ex-Bayern star was delighted to make his first appearance at Old Trafford.

"It was a special feeling," Schweinsteiger told former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves for BT Sport.

"I played here twice with Munich and the last match here [in 2014] and I scored and got a red card against [Wayne Rooney], and from the beginning I had a good feeling [about joining].

"I wanted to change clubs and play for a club similar to Bayern with the same philosophy and tradition and with Van Gaal in charge, it has worked out brilliantly."

United return to domestic action when they host Newcastle United on August 22.
