Louis van Gaal 'told Sir Alex Ferguson won't interfere at Manchester United'

Louis van Gaal will be named Manchester United boss this week after being told Sir Alex Ferguson will not interfere, according to reports.

Louis van Gaal will accept the position as Manchester United manager after reportedly receiving assurances that Sir Alex Ferguson will not play any significant role in the club's future.

According to The People, the 62-year-old had fears that Scot's position of power and influence, having recommended former boss David Moyes, may undermine the Dutchman's plans to return the Red Devils to former glories.

The future of Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes on the United coaching staff is also believed to have been a sticking point that held up any agreement.

However, it is reported that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has moved to allay any fears and Van Gaal should be named as coach this week.

Van Gaal's World Cup campaign with the Netherlands gets underway against defending champions Spain on June 13.
