Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy reveals that he is yet to speak with incoming Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim about his future at Old Trafford.

Manchester United interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed that he is yet to speak with Ruben Amorim about his future at Old Trafford, as the Portuguese prepares to arrive from Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim will officially take charge of the Red Devils on Monday, replacing Van Nistelrooy at the helm, and there is huge uncertainty when it comes to the Dutchman's position at Old Trafford.

Man United's former striker has expressed a desire to remain with the club once Amorim arrives, and he recently claimed that he is expecting to revert to his assistant manager role in the new set-up.

Amorim, though, is bringing in his own staff, and it is unclear whether there will be a position for Van Nistelrooy.

The 48-year-old has said that he has not yet spoken with Amorim about his own future, with the conversation expected to take place next week, once Sporting have faced Braga, and Man United have taken on Leicester City.

Van Nistelrooy has still not spoken with incoming Man United boss Amorim

"I think that Ruben, what he is saying, his focus is on [Sporting against] Braga and I focus on Leicester. I think that's a great one for now. And that shows that we're focused on the day-by-day job and get the maximum out of the team. So let him focus on Braga, I'll focus on Leicester. I will see after that," Van Nistelrooy told reporters following Thursday's 2-0 win over PAOK.

"I'm only busy with one thing in my mind. I want my last game as an interim, I want to prepare it as good as I can and give the players everything they need to get the best performance out of them and, hopefully, get three very important games keep them at Old Trafford and that's my absolute focus. And other than that, I don't look too far ahead to be really honest, it's too important."

Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford over the summer as part of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff, but he was placed in charge on an interim basis when the Red Devils sacked the latter at the end of last month.

Onana calls for Man United to keep hold of Van Nistelrooy

Man United's first-team squad are reportedly desperate for Van Nistelrooy to stay at the club, with the Dutchman said to have built strong relationships with the players since his return over the summer.

Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana has expressed a desire for the club to keep hold of the current interim manager when questioned after the team's 2-0 success over PAOK.

"100%. He's a very good guy, a very good coach. He has so much experience and he advises us a lot," Onana told TNT Sports when asked whether the players wanted him to stay.

"It's fantastic what he's doing and the players are happy. But at the end of the day, it's not something we can decide. The club make the decision and we have to accept it."

Man United will be bidding to make it back-to-back wins when they welcome Leicester to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, while Amorim's first game at the helm will be against Ipswich Town on November 24.
