Manchester United striker Robin van Persie admits that he was delighted with his opening strike against Wigan Athletic on New Year's Day.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has revealed that his opening goal against Wigan Athletic was the result of 'three perfect touches'.

The Dutch forward bamboozled Wigan defender Ivan Ramis before curling the ball into the far corner of the net and Van Persie has admitted that he thought it was a "good goal".

Van Persie told ITV.com: "It was a good goal because every single touch was the right one.

"The first one was a little behind me and I had to drag it onto my left foot.

"Then I waited for the guy to slide in, had a good touch inside and then a quick finish. Three touches but all good touches."

Manchester United went on to defeat Wigan 4-0 to maintain their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
