Arsenal are reportedly set to complete the signing of Jurrien Timber after reaching an agreement with Ajax.

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement over a transfer for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.

After falling short of Manchester City in the title race last term, Arsenal are hoping to build a squad that can mount another push for the Premier League crown.

They signalled their intent with the signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea as well as the imminent arrival of Declan Rice.

The England international is set to undergo a medical after Arsenal finalised negotiations with West Ham United over a £105m deal.

Arsenal are in no mood to rest on their laurels, with the Gunners set to continue their summer spending with the addition of a new central defender.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have reached a full agreement to sign Timber from Dutch giants Ajax.

The North London club have agreed to pay an initial €40m (£34.3m) fee plus a further €5m (£4.3m) in "largely realistic bonuses".

Ajax previously rejected a £30m offer from the Gunners, as they held out for a significant bid for their academy product.

With two years remaining on Timber's Ajax contract, the Eredivisie side were believed to be looking for a fee in the region of £50m.

However, the two clubs have managed to reach a compromise, partly due to Timber's desire to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium.

As a result of the latest development, Timber is free to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms with the Gunners.

The centre-back, who has earned 15 caps for the Netherlands, will become a Premier League player just a year after turning down the opportunity to join Manchester United.

After deciding to remain in the Netherlands, Timber went on to make 47 competitive appearances last term, chipping in with two goals and two assists.

During his three-year stay with Ajax, the 22-year-old has featured in 121 games, winning two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Beker.

Should everything go according to plan, Arsenal could announce the signings of both Timber and Rice by the end of the week.
