Arsenal 'still lead Gabriel race despite growing interest'

Arsenal are still at the head of the queue for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Arsenal are reportedly 'still ahead' in the race for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes despite a host of clubs being linked with a late move.

Manchester United have allegedly held talks with the 22-year-old's representatives over a potential move to Old Trafford, while Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have also been credited with an interest.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, United are in discussions with the defender's agents but are yet to open talks with Lille, who are believed to value the Brazilian in the region of £22m.

Romano, meanwhile, claims that Arsenal are still at the head of the queue for the South American, although it remains to be seen whether the Gunners can get a deal over the line.

Gabriel, who has also been linked with a switch to Italian giants Napoli, made 34 appearances for his Ligue 1 side last term, including six outings in the Champions League.

Lille defender Jose Fonte recently hinted that the defender is interested in a move to England.
