Chelsea and Atletico Madrid still hold an interest in Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a report.

The 37-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford throughout this summer after the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

Ronaldo has allegedly expressed his desire to leave the club, while his agent Jorge Mendes is believed to have held talks with several potential suitors.

Chelsea, Atletico, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli and Sporting Lisbon have all been linked with a move for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, but reports earlier this summer suggested that they have turned down the chance to recruit him.

However, Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol, via The Sun, claims that a possible switch for Ronaldo to either Chelsea or Atletico cannot be ruled out just yet.

Following the departures of both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, Chelsea are on the lookout for a new centre-forward, with The Sun claiming that new owner Todd Boehly is intrigued by the prospect of luring Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge.

Atletico could also be in the market for attacking reinforcements, amid uncertainty over the futures of Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann and Matheus Cunha, the latter of whom has been strongly linked with a switch to Man United.

However, a separate report from Sky Sports News states that senior figures at both Chelsea and Atletico are not convinced that they should sign the forward this summer.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo revealed last month that the La Liga club have no plans to sign the former Real Madrid man this summer.

Speaking to El Partidazo de COPE, Cerezo said: "I don't know who invented the story of [Ronaldo], but it's practically impossible for him to come to Atletico de Madrid."

Ronaldo is believed to have grown unhappy at United over the summer and his negative presence at the club has allegedly affected the team's morale.

A recent report claims that senior figures at United have been 'alarmed' after learning how Ronaldo's mood has quickly decimated the positive atmosphere the club had at the beginning of pre-season, and they are now prepared to part ways with the Portugal international.

After returning to Old Trafford from Juventus last summer, Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 39 appearances for United across all competitions, but both he and the club ended the 2021-22 campaign trophyless.

Ronaldo has since featured in both of their opening two Premier League fixtures, coming off the bench in their 2-1 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion before playing the full 90 minutes in their disastrous 4-0 away defeat at Brentford last weekend.

The forward, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract, is set to be in contention to face rivals Liverpool in the Premier League next Monday.
