Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot is close to agreeing a new five-year deal at Old Trafford with £85,000 a week plus bonuses, according to a report.

Diogo Dalot is reportedly close to coming to an agreement with Manchester United over a new five-year contract, which will see the defender almost triple his salary at the club.

The Portugal international recently had his deal extended until June 2024, but the Red Devils are keen to sign him to a long-term agreement at Old Trafford.

Dalot has been in strong form for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign, contributing one goal and two assists in 23 appearances in all competitions, although he has struggled with a hamstring problem since representing his country at the 2022 World Cup.

Indeed, the 23-year-old has only featured in one of his side's Premier League games since the competition in Qatar, but he was back on the bench against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Dalot will now hope to be in contention to start against Leeds United on Wednesday, although Aaron Wan-Bissaka has impressed in his absence.

There has been speculation surrounding Dalot's future, with Real Madrid and Barcelona both believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation at Old Trafford.

However, according to The Sun, an announcement from the 20-time English champions over a new contract could be close.

The report claims that Man United are keen to sign Dalot to the club until June 2028, and he will be offered £85,000 a week plus bonuses, which would almost triple his current £30,000-a-week pay packet.

Dalot arrived at Old Trafford from Porto in July 2018, and he has now made 88 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, contributing two goals and five assists in the process.

The Portuguese became Man United's first-choice right-back when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as head coach in November 2021, with Wan-Bissaka dropping down the pecking order.

Wan-Bissaka had been expected to leave Old Trafford in January, but Dalot's injury opened the door for the Englishman to impress, and he has been in strong form in recent weeks.

Man United survived a late scare to record a 2-1 win over Palace in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with Marcus Rashford's strike in the second half proving to be decisive.

The 20-time English champions are currently third in the Premier League table, two points clear of fourth-placed Newcastle United and sixth ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
