Ryan Giggs 'to leave Manchester United this summer'

Ryan Giggs will leave Manchester United this summer to further his coaching career, according to reports.

Ryan Giggs will reportedly call time on his illustrious playing career at Manchester United and will leave the club in order to develop his fledgling coaching career.

The former Welsh international is said to be unwilling to accept a role as part of Louis van Gaal's backroom staff, should the Dutchman be appointed at the end of the season, according to The Mirror.

It is believed that Van Gaal would have wanted Giggs to give up his playing career to continue on the coaching staff at Old Trafford, but the 40-year-old is open to other opportunities.

He said: "I've been extremely lucky in that I have only ever worked at United, but I am still a young man in relative terms in management.

"I could have another 20 to 25 years in the game – and it might not all be spent at United.

"If I went elsewhere it would be strange, but I can see myself doing that."

Giggs second game in interim charge of the club ended in defeat at home to struggling Sunderland.
