Jose Mourinho has reportedly made a raid on his former club Real Madrid for Karim Benzema one of his main priorities as soon as he is confirmed the new Manchester United manager.
The Portuguese coach is expected to be named as Louis van Gaal's replacement within the next 48 hours, with negotiations said to be at an advanced stage.
According to The Independent, the incoming United boss has already identified the attack as being one of United's weakest elements.
That is why he is supposedly so keen to be reunited with Benzema, who rejected a move to Old Trafford in 2009 when leaving Lyon.
However, the report adds that it may difficult to tempt the 28-year-old away from the Bernabeu, where he is said to be in discussions over a new contract.
The Frenchman, who caused a stir on social media earlier this week by positing a picture that contained the United badge, scored 79 goals in 150 appearances during Mourinho's stint in charge of Madrid.
