Manchester United confirm that they are in talks with experienced attacker Juan Mata over a possible contract extension.

Manchester United have confirmed that they are in talks with Juan Mata over a possible contract extension.

The 33-year-old only made 18 appearances for the Red Devils during the 2020-21 campaign, with just nine of those coming in the Premier League, where he contributed one goal and two assists.

The Spaniard's existing deal with Man United is due to expire at the end of June, and there is believed to be interest in his services from a number of La Liga clubs.

However, Mata could yet remain at Old Trafford, as the 20-time English champions have revealed that discussions surrounding a potential new deal are ongoing.

Man United confirmed the news via a statement on their official website, with Sergio Romero being released at the end of this month, but fellow goalkeeper Lee Grant is in talks over a potential extension.

Mata started two of his side's final four matches of the 2020-21 Premier League campaign before being introduced as a late substitute in the Europa League final with Villarreal.

The playmaker has made 273 appearances for the Red Devils since arriving from Chelsea in January 2014.
