Manchester United reportedly give up on trying to sign Leighton Baines from Everton due to the Merseyside club's unwillingness to sell the full-back.

Manchester United have reportedly ended their pursuit of Everton full-back Leighton Baines due to the Merseyside club's unwillingness to sell the England international.

The 28-year-old has been linked with the Premier League champions for some time, but the Red Devils were unsuccessful in their opening bid, said to be worth £10m.

It is understood that talks between United chief executive Ed Woodward and Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has left the English champions with the realisation that the Toffees will not budge on their stance, according to The Express.

Recent reports have suggested that Baines could sign a new deal at Everton if a switch to Old Trafford fails to materialise.
