Juventus defender Cristian Romero, who starred on loan with Atalanta BC last season, is reportedly a £39m target for Manchester United.

Manchester United have reportedly switched focus to Juventus defender Cristian Romero in their search for a new centre-back.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a long-term partner for Harry Maguire, with doubts remaining over Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Romero is being seriously considered by United after impressing on loan with Atalanta BC.

Romero was among the best defenders in Serie A last season, helping his side to seven clean sheets en route to a third-placed finish.

Atalanta have the option to purchase the Argentina international outright for £21.5m, which they now seem certain to do.

However, it is claimed that United will then test La Dea's resolve by tabling a £39m offer for the 23-year-old.

The Red Devils finished as runners-up in the Premier League last time out and are supposedly eyeing up four new players this summer.
