Roma have reportedly approached Manchester United with an offer in the region of £8.5m with a view to securing a permanent deal for Chris Smalling ahead of the January transfer window.
Smalling joined Roma on loan from United over the summer, and the 29-year-old has been in impressive form for the Italian giants in recent weeks, playing the full 90 minutes in each of their last six Serie A matches.
The Red Devils are thought to value Smalling in the region of £12.9m, but according to Sky in Italy, I Giallorossi have offered approximately £8.5m in the hope of securing a deal.
As it stands, Smalling will spend the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign on loan with Paulo Fonseca's side before returning to Old Trafford next summer.
The former Fulham youngster has claimed that he is keeping in contact with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his loan spell, suggesting that he is expecting to return to England at the end of the season.
Smalling's current deal in Manchester will run until the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
