A report claims that renovation work on Manchester United's Old Trafford has been pushed back so that Jose Mourinho has more money to spend on players in the summer.

Manchester United officials have reportedly postponed renovation work on Old Trafford to free up further funds for manager Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils boss has already spent big since taking over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016, paying close to £300m to bring in the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic across four transfer windows.

Mourinho is said to have made clear to his bosses that he wants to land central-midfield reinforcements in the summer, however, while a new right-back and left-back are also on the agenda.

According to the Daily Mail, the Portuguese has been granted his wish by vice-chairman Ed Woodward as expansion work on the club's 75,000-capacity home has been pushed back until a later date.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Alvaro Odriozola and Jean Michael Seri have all been linked with summer moves to United, who lag 13 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City after playing a game more than their rivals.
