Robin van Persie 'expected to sign new Manchester United contract'

Robin van Persie's father believes that the striker will sign a new contract at Manchester United when his deal expires in 2016.

Robin van Persie's father believes that the Manchester United striker will extend his stay at Old Trafford once his contract expires in 2016.

There were suggestions that the Netherlands international was unhappy with the Red Devils last season under the guidance of manager David Moyes, who was sacked in April.

With Louis van Gaal confirmed as Moyes's replacement, reports have claimed that Van Persie could be appointed as the team's new captain next season.

According to his father Bob van Persie, the 30-year-old will sign a new contract in the future, and may even return to Manchester as a coach when he retires from playing.

"When his contract ends in Manchester, he'll be 33," Bob told The Blizzard. "As long as he is fit enough, and I am sure he will be, he'll stay in Manchester. Then he'll go back to [his first club] Excelsior. Money will never be an issue."

Van Persie is currently with the national side in Brazil preparing for their World Cup opener against reigning champions Spain on Friday.
