Vice-chairman Ed Woodward is adamant that Manchester United's failure to sign Lucas Moura had nothing to do with money.

Manchester United's vice-chairman Ed Woodward has insisted that the club did not miss out on the signing of Lucas Moura because of a lack of funds.

The Red Devils were heavily linked throughout the summer with the Brazilian international, who eventually opted to join French outfit Paris Saint-Germain.

That led to some supporters opposed to the club's owners questioning their ability to compete with their rivals in the transfer market.

However, Woodward is adamant that the Glazer family have never turned down Sir Alex Ferguson's wish to add a new player to his squad.

"The Glazers have never said 'No' to Sir Alex's request for a player. There is no difference between staying as a plc or the Glazer takeover in terms of the team on the pitch." said Woodward.

"There was no secret about bidding for Lucas and three years ago trying to buy Benzema. The money has always been made available to him."

Despite missing out on Lucas, Ferguson was able to secure the signings of Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa.
