Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward reportedly gives the green light to a £125m January swoop for Bundesliga stars Thomas Muller and Kai Havertz.

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reportedly given the green light to a £125m January swoop for Bundesliga stars Thomas Muller and Kai Havertz.

The Red Devils are widely thought to be planning a big squad rebuild in the upcoming transfer window after recording their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

The Mirror now reports that the club sent scouts to Germany over the weekend to watch the two in action for Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.

Muller was a target for United back in 2014 when they were managed by David Moyes, and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have revived their interest as the attacking midfielder is no longer an automatic starter for Bayern boss Niko Kovac.

While the former German international is older than the players United usually go for, the Norwegian is believed to want him because of the extensive experience that he can pass on to the club's young strikers Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Meanwhile Havertz, who is valued at £85m by Leverkusen, is one of Europe's most wanted prospects following his string of impressive performances for Die Werkself over the past few seasons.
