Aitor Karanka 'could stay' at Middlesbrough

Aitor Karanka could reportedly remain as Middlesbrough boss after agreeing to hold talks with the Championship side.

Aitor Karanka could stay put as Middlesbrough manager after agreeing to hold talks with the club over his future.

The Spaniard was not present at The Valley for his side's surprise defeat to relegation-threatened Charlton Athletic on Sunday after storming out of the Boro training ground on Friday following a "heated" row with players.

Reports suggested that Karanka would be relieved of his duties this week as a result, but according to Sky Sports News, he could yet resolve his differences with the Championship side.

Karanka is due to meet club executives on Tuesday for a make-or-break meeting that could see him back in the dugout in time for the top-of-the-table clash with Hull City on Friday night.

Boro are currently second in the Championship but a blip in form has seen them win just once in their last four.
