Millwall earn first league win of the season with Blackpool victory

Steve Lomas wins his first league game as Millwall manager as his team come from behind to Blackpool in their Championship clash at The Den.

Millwall secured their first league win under Steve Lomas as they beat Blackpool 3-1 at The Den this evening.

Blackpool took the lead in the 16th minute when Bob Harris lifted a cross into the area, which was only half cleared by Paul Robinson and the ball fell to Thomas Ince, who controlled the ball and then fired it into the net past David Forde.

The home side almost got back into the game when a cross found Martyn Woolford at the back of the penalty area but his header crashed off the post and rebounded into the hands of Matthew Gilks.

Millwall got their leveller just before the break when they were awarded a penalty when Isaiah Osbourne handled in the area and Liam Trotter duly fired the spot kick past Gilks.

Blackpool came out for the second half reinvigorated and came close to retaking the lead when Ince found time and space on the edge of the area. He took a touch with his right foot to get the ball out of his feet and launched an effort at goal, which went just over the bar.

However, Millwall took the lead when Nicky Bailey finished in clinical fashion in the 73rd from the edge of the box from Woolford's corner as he blasted the ball past Gilks.

It got better for Steve Lomas's side just seconds later as they broke up a Blackpool attack and the ball was played out to Steve Morison on the right and he took the ball into the box before lashing an effort past Gilks into the top corner.

Blackpool tried to get back into the game late on but the Lions held firm to hold out for the victory.
