Bert Van Marwijk says that his his team must beat Germany in order to qualify from the 'group of death'.

Netherlands coach Bert Van Marwijk has said that his team must now beat Germany if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of Euro 2012.

The Dutch fell to a 1-0 defeat in their Group B opener against Denmark, courtesy of a first-half strike from Michael Krohn-Delhi.

Next up for Van Marwijk's men is a clash with the Germans, who overcame Portugal 1-0 in Lviv.

Van Marwijk is aware that they must take three points in Kharkiv if the are to qualify from the 'group of death'.

"We just have to beat Germany," said Van Marwijk. "It's not going to be easy, but that's the goal now and everyone knows that."

The 60-year-old was frustrated by his team's profligacy in front of goal against Denmark, who he believes performed a smash-and-grab victory.

"We had all those chances, but the ball didn't want to go in," said Van Marwijk. "In games like that, it's better to be defending."

The Oranje lost their first game of Euro 1988 before going on to win the tournament.
