Netherlands keeper Tim Krul "happy" to psych out players again

Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul is adamant that his technique to put off opposition players as they take a penalty is a "good way" to psych them out.

Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul is adamant that his technique to put off opposition players as they take a penalty is a "good way" to psych them out.

The Newcastle United stopper was criticised by some for his methods in the World Cup quarter-final shootout against Costa Rica, which Netherlands won 4-3 to advance to Wednesday's semi-final against Argentina.

Speaking at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Krul, who was brought off the bench specifically for the shootout, said: ''I did nothing crazy. I didn't shout in an aggressive manner. I told them I knew where they were going because I had analysed it.

''I was trying to get in their heads and it worked because I saved two penalties.

''It is a good way of psyching [penalty takers] out and I am happy to do it again."

Despite his impressive display in the shootout, Krul will not start in goal against Argentina, Dutch coach Louis van Gaal has said.
