Everton manager Frank Lampard has admitted the defeat to Newcastle United was "disappointing."

The Toffees were beaten 3-1 by the Magpies, handing the former Chelsea boss his first loss since taking charge of the club, despite the fact they took the lead via an own goal from Jamaal Lascelles.

However, Mason Holgate then put the ball in the back of his own net, and that was followed by strikes from Ryan Fraser and Kieran Trippier to hand Eddie Howe's team all three points.

"I have come to a situation where we have to get better in a lot of things, so to come here and lose a game is disappointing but we must not sink into an idea where feelings of confidence go down. We have to take the night on the chin and move forward," Lampard told the press.

"The goals are preventable because mistakes lead to goals. That's disappointing and something you want to address."

Everton will be back in action on Saturday against Leeds United in the Premier League.
