Russell Slade not giving up on automatic promotion

Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade insists that his side will not give up on earning automatic promotion to the Championship this season.

Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade has insisted that his side will not give up on earning automatic promotion to the Championship this season.

Orient slipped four points adrift of second-placed Brentford - who have two games in hand - after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Walsall today.

Although Slade admits that it is a big ask to move into England's second tier without the playoffs, the 53-year-old refuses to believe that it is impossible.

He told the club's official website: "Automatic promotion will be tough but definitely isn't out of the question. We can just keep pushing."

Nathan Clarke hit a 79th-minute equaliser for the Londoners following Paul Downing's first-half strike, and Slade believes that his men should have gone on to win the encounter.

He added: "We weren't at our best first half and credit to Walsall they deserved to be in front. We were better second half.

"We put them under pressure and when the goal came we deserved it then could have won it on another day."
