Saturday's League One predictions including Portsmouth vs. Charlton

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League One fixtures, including Portsmouth vs. Charlton.

Peterborough vs. Cambridge (Saturday, 12.00pm)

Peterborough United welcome local rivals Cambridge United to the Weston Homes Stadium for the 51st instalment of the Cambridgeshire derby on Saturday.

This is already the second meeting between the clubs this season after their EFL Trophy clash in September, which the Posh won 2-0 here.

We say: Peterborough United 1-0 Cambridge United

Entertainment has been thin on the ground in Cambridge's matches this season, as 12 of their 16 games in League One have seen two goals or fewer scored.

In an intense local derby, it is unlikely to produce many goals either, but a narrow win for promotion chasing Peterborough is the most likely outcome.

Our tipster partners are predicting a home win.

Bolton vs. Blackpool (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool meet in an all-North West affair at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in League One on Saturday.

With both sides in the hunt for promotion, it is set to be a hard-fought derby with little quarter given in a fixture that very often favours the home side on the day.

We say: Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Blackpool

Twenty-seven meetings have passed since the away side on the day has won in this fixture, and given Bolton's brilliant recent form, they are set to keep that going.

Blackpool have proven tough to beat, but a run of eight wins from nine games for Bolton suggests the Tangerines have a big task on their hands to stop their North-West rivals from continuing that run.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 2.5 goals.

Carlisle vs. Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Carlisle United's Ben Barclay celebrates scoring their third goal with teammates on May 20, 2023© Reuters

Carlisle United host Bristol City in League One on Saturday in the first third-tier meeting between these sides since the 2010-11 season.

The visitors have improved somewhat since the sacking of Joey Barton, but fans were left disappointed as they failed to beat Reading in midweek.

We say: Carlisle United 1-1 Bristol Rovers

There are often plenty of goals when these sides meet, as the last 11 head-to-heads have produced a whopping 36 goals.

Neither of the two sides are in the best form though, so a close, cagey affair could be in store which may see the spoils shared.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 2.5 goals.

Cheltenham vs. Wigan (Saturday, 3.00pm)

An improving Cheltenham Town side welcome one of League One's most in-form outfit's to Whaddon Road on Saturday, when Wigan Athletic travel to face the Robins.

Wigan will be feeling confident facing the lowest scorers in English professional football given a fantastic run of form, which has moved them clear of trouble despite their points deduction.

We say: Cheltenham Town 0-2 Wigan Athletic

In a first away game following four straight home league outings, Wigan will have to adjust to unfamiliar surroundings here against a Cheltenham side who are not as soft as they were at the start of the season.

Maloney's side have taken some big scalps recently though, and their form should see them up near the playoffs if it were not for off-field issues, so another win is on the cards here.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 2.5 goals.

Derby vs. Barnsley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Derby County manager Paul Warne reacts on July 29, 2023© Reuters

Two sides separated by just three points at the top end of the League One table will do battle on Saturday, as Derby County welcome Barnsley to Pride Park.

The visitors have climbed to fifth spot in England's third tier thanks to a five-match unbeaten run, while their hosts find themselves just two points outside of the playoff places after their 15 outings.

We say: Derby County 1-1 Barnsley

Despite both sides finding themselves in and around the playoff places at this early stage, neither are yet to truly kick into gear so far this term, and we do not envisage either team outclassing the other at Pride Park on Saturday and instead opt for a share of the spoils.

Our tipster partners are predicting a home win.

Fleetwood vs. Exeter (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Fleetwood Town will look to climb out of the bottom four of the League One table on Saturday, when they welcome Exeter City to Highbury.

The hosts have climbed to within a point of safety thanks to a three-game unbeaten run, while their visitors are now just four points better off in 17th spot in the midst of a dismal run of form.

We say: Fleetwood Town 2-1 Exeter City

Fleetwood are gaining momentum under Lee Johnson having seemingly turned a corner, while Exeter are devoid of any confidence given their poor recent run, and we envisage the hosts coming out on top this weekend and closing the gap between the two sides with differing trajectories to just a single point.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Leyton Orient vs. Oxford Utd (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens before the match on April 18, 2023© Reuters

Leyton Orient will look to extend their unbeaten league run to six matches when they play host to second-placed Oxford United on Saturday.

The visitors, meanwhile, are currently without a permanent manager after Liam Manning decided to accept the managerial post at Bristol City.

We say: Leyton Orient 1-2 Oxford United

Despite seeing their manager depart in the week, Oxford will carry momentum into Saturday's contest following three consecutive victories, and we think they will edge out Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road to continue their winning run.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 2.5 goals.

Lincoln vs. Port Vale (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Following three cup matches, Port Vale will return to League One action with a trip to the LNER Stadium for Saturday's clash with Lincoln City.

The hosts currently occupy 16th position in the league table, while the visitors are four points better off in ninth place.

We say: Lincoln City 2-1 Port Vale

With Port Vale winless in four away league games, the visitors will be desperate to claim all three points on Saturday, but we think they will have to settle for a point against a Lincoln side that are unbeaten in the last four head-to-head home meetings.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 2.5 goals.

Northampton vs. Burton Albion (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Northampton Town will be hoping to bring an end to a wretched run of results in League One when they take on Burton Albion at Sixfields Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts have managed a total of 14 points from their 15 matches so far and are down in 20th place in the league standings, while the visitors are six places above them with 20 points.

We say: Northampton Town 1-1 Burton Albion

This looks like a very even contest that both sides will feel they can win but would rather not lose. We are expecting a tight match here and feel that these sides will not be separated after 90 minutes.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 2.5 goals.

Portsmouth vs. Charlton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Portsmouth will have the chance to extend their 26-game unbeaten league run when they play host to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

While the hosts are currently leading the way in the third tier, the Addicks head into the weekend in 11th place after collecting 21 points from 15 games.

We say: Portsmouth 2-1 Charlton Athletic

Although Charlton have won the last three head-to-head meetings, Portsmouth have won their previous six competitive home matches, and we think they will draw upon their fine home form to claim all three points on Saturday.

Our tipster partners are predicting a home win.

Shrewsbury vs. Reading (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Reading will be hoping to move off the bottom of the League One table for the first time this season when they head to The Croud Meadow to take on Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts are currently in 19th place in the league standings, having taken 17 points from 16 matches this season, while the visitors are at the foot of the table and staring at the possibility of back-to-back relegations.

We say: Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Reading

While Reading have managed to avoid defeat in their last two matches in all competitions, they have not been able to record a single point in an away match this term. They now face an opponent that have been fairly good in defence on their home patch despite not carrying much threat at the other end of the pitch. We are backing a narrow home win in this one.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 2.5 goals.

Wycombe vs. Stevenage (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wycombe Wanderers' Brandon Hanlan celebrates scoring their first goal on January 11, 2022© Reuters

Stevenage will look to continue their solid run in League One when they head to Adams Park to face Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Unlike several teams in the league, these sides were not involved in midweek action and come into this match having booked their places in the second round of the FA Cup last weekend.

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Stevenage

While Wycombe have not been at their absolute best this season, they have been very difficult to beat at Adams Park and we expect another resilient performance from them in this match. Stevenage have not travelled well since the start of October, and we feel they will have to settle for a share of the spoils in this one.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.
