Neymar: 'PSG can be world's greatest'
World-record signing Neymar says that new employers Paris Saint-Germain can become "the greatest club in the world".

Neymar has said that he believes his new side Paris Saint-Germain can become "the greatest club in the world".

The Brazilian became the most expensive signing in football history yesterday when he completed a switch from Barcelona to the French side at a cost of €222m (£200m) in transfer fees alone.

PSG lost the Ligue 1 title to AS Monaco last season and were ousted from the Champions League by Barca in a memorable round-of-16 tie, but Neymar is now keen to get going and "write history" with Les Parisiens.

"I heard people criticise Ligue 1 and I have spoken to players about it," he told reporters at his unveiling today. "There are no easy games here. It is a big challenge for us to win the league again. We have great potential to be the greatest club in the world.

"I want to write history at PSG, this is the only reason. There are new challenges and I want to help write history. Our biggest challenge is the Champions League, but want all the trophies."

PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: "You are trying to put pressure on us and Neymar, we love it. Our ambition is to win the Champions League, that is always there. We want to win the maximum trophies we can. It is our dream and we will fight for it. The players need to enjoy it."

As runners-up in the league last year, PSG have secured qualification for this season's Champions League at the group stage.
