Half-Time Report: Hibernian lead Rangers at interval

Jason Cummings's goal gives Hibernian a 1-0 half-time lead over Rangers in the clash between the Scottish Championship's top two at Easter Road.

A fine strike from Jason Cummings has given Hibernian a 1-0 half-time lead over Rangers in the top-of-the-table Scottish Championship clash at Easter Road.

The Gers came into the match having won all 11 of their league matches so far this season and sat eight points clear of Hibs at summit, and they thought that they should have had an early penalty when Jason Holt went down under the challenge of Lewis Stevenson.

Moments later they came forward again in an attack which ended with Lee Wallace flashing a drive narrowly wide of the post, but immediately after that chance they fell behind.

Hibs' top scorer Cummings was found on the right flank and he cut inside and curled a fine finish past Wes Foderingham for his 11th goal of the season to hand his side the lead after just 14 minutes.

The opener lifted an already enthusiastic home crowd and Liam Henderson fired wide from a similar position as the hosts came forward again, before Dominique Malonga danced his way into the penalty area and found David Gray, whose effort was too weak to beat Foderingham.

Rangers gradually found a foothold in the game and after Holt had a shot blocked, home goalkeeper Mark Oxley saved well from James Tavernier when the right-back was found by Nicky Clark's low cross.

It was the Glasgow side who ended the half on top, but Cummings's strike remained the difference as the half-time whistle sounded.
