Reading have appealed against the red card shown to Alex Pearce in Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Pearce was dismissed for a professional foul that caused Wednesday's opening goal from the penalty spot.

Speaking after the game, Royals boss Nigel Adkins told reporters: "Having looked at the video, I'm not sure it's even a penalty. There's no way it should have been a red card."

If the ban is upheld by the Football Association, then Pearce will miss Sunday's trip to fellow promotion hopefuls Queens Park Rangers.
