Reading are targeting Newcastle's Danny Simpson, who may be free to leave Tyneside should Mathieu Debuchy complete a move to the Magpies.

Reading are reportedly interested in signing defender Danny Simpson from Newcastle United.

The right-back only has one year left on his Magpies contract stands to be ousted from his first-team slot by Mathieu Debuchy.

The France international is close to agreeing a move from native side Lille, which would leave Simpson surplus to requirements on Tyneside.

Royals boss Brian McDermott is keeping tabs on Simpson's situation and will apparently make an offer once Debuchy signs on at the Sports Direct Arena, according to Sky Sports News.

Simpson made 40 appearances in all competitions for United last season.
