Sergio Ramos: 'I have a great friendship with Cristiano Ronaldo'

Sergio Ramos plays down talk of a rift between himself and Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, but says that they do sometimes have "different opinions".

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has reiterated that "nothing has ever happened" between himself and star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fresh reports of behind-the-scenes unrest emerged last week, claiming that Ramos was desperately hoping to win back control of the dressing room from Ronaldo.

The Spanish centre-back claims that, while the pair do not always see eye to eye, there has been no rift and they are both singing from the same hymn sheet to get Madrid back on course.

"Nothing has ever happened between him and me," he told TVE. "There has always been a great friendship between us. We have a lot of personality and have some different opinions, but we're pulling in the same direction."

Ramos was dismissed in Los Blancos' goalless draw with Athletic Bilbao last weekend - his 24th red card for the club in all competitions.
