Lucas Vazquez expects Cristiano Ronaldo to push Lionel Messi all the way in the Pichichi race, with the Barcelona man currently three goals better off.

Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez has insisted that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo can still overtake Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi to finish top of the Spanish scoring charts.

The Portugal international dragged himself within three goals of Messi with his quadruple against Girona in Sunday night's 6-3 win at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo has returned to his goalscoring best since the turn of the year, finding the net 21 times in 11 matches, and Vazquez admits the importance of the 33-year-old being in peak form if Madrid are to end the season on a high.

"The better Cristiano Ronaldo is, the better Real Madrid will be," he told reporters. "Cristiano is playing at a spectacular level and it shows every day. If he continues like this, then he'll be close to Messi [in the Pichichi race]."

Ronaldo managed just four league goals before the start of 2018, but he now has 22 to his name.
