Javier Hernandez to return to Manchester United

Real Madrid decide against taking up the option to make Javier Hernandez's loan move permanent, meaning that the striker will return to parent club Manchester United.

Real Madrid have opted against turning Javier Hernandez's loan deal into a permanent switch this summer.

The Mexican striker joined Los Blancos last September on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United, but spent much of the campaign on the bench behind the preferred attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

Hernandez was given more first-team action towards the end of the season due to an injury to Benzema, notably scoring the winning goal against Atletico Madrid to send Real through to the Champions League semi-finals.

In all, the 26-year-old scored nine times in 33 appearances during his stint in the Spanish capital as Los Blancos went through a trophiless campaign that ultimately cost Carlo Ancelotti his job.

The club have now decided against keeping Hernandez, leaving his future up in the air. He will return to Old Trafford, but is understood to be deemed surplus to requirements by United boss Louis van Gaal.

Hernandez, whose contract with United runs out at the end of next season, has been linked with a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur and Orlando City.
