Real Salt Lake have recorded a 2-0 victory in their opening match of the MLS season against the San Jose Earthquakes, courtesy of a clinical brace from Alvaro Saborio.
The Costa Rican striker opened the scoring 20 minutes from time when he raced onto a lofted pass from Joao Plata before drilling in from 12 yards.
San Jose were made to rue missed chances when Saborio combined with Kyle Beckerman to turn home a decisive second goal five minutes from time with an assured finish.
Chris Wondolowski, Sebastian Velasquez and Michael Fucito all went close for the home side but a late charge from Real proved enough to earn all three points.
