Rennes move into fifth in Ligue 1 after securing a 1-1 draw with Auxerre on Sunday.

Rennes have moved into fifth spot in Ligue 1 after drawing 1-1 with Auxerre on Sunday.

It was the away side who started the match the stronger and they took the lead after ten minutes when Dennis Oliech found the bottom corner following a sweeping move.

Rennes began to dominate possession as the half progressed, however, and Jires Kembo-Ekoko came close with an effort after 20 minutes.

Kembo-Ekoko again came close after 35 minutes, but his strike was blocked by a series of challenges.

The second period started in much the same fashion as the first finished, with Rennes dominating the ball and Vincent Pajot and Yann M'Vila both came close within five minutes of the restart.

Rennes eventually had their equaliser after 66 minutes when Yacine Brahimi found the bottom corner after good work from Jonathan Pitroipa.

It was the home side who pushed for the winner in the latter stages, and they came close via John Boye after 77 minutes, but his header just missed the target.
