Colorado Rapids 1-2 San Jose Earthquakes

Chris Wondolowski scores a penalty in injury time to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-1 win against the Colorado Rapids.

Two goals in the final ten minutes have given the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-1 victory away to the Colorado Rapids.

San Jose looked the better side in the first few minutes but failed to find a breakthrough despite their early dominance.

Colorado made the Earthquakes pay for their wasteful play in the final third as they took the lead after 18 minutes when Brian Mullin found space to head in Hunter Freeman's cross from close range.

The hosts improved after the goal and Martin Rivero could have extended the lead on two occasions but the winger failed to hit the target as San Jose survived until the break.

San Jose appeared to be a different team after the break as they kept Colorado on the back foot but the visitors couldn't force an equaliser until the final minutes of the match.

Alan Gordon levelled the scores in the 83rd minute as Colorado failed to clear the ball and the substitute fired a deflected shot in from close range.

Colorado were left shocked after the goal and gifted the Earthquakes an opportunity to snatch a win after Matt Pickens fouled Gordon inside the area.

Chris Wondolowski stepped up and slotted his penalty past Pickens to give San Jose the victory.
