Santos hopeful over Robinho deal

AC Milan forward Robinho is close to joining former club Santos, according to the Brazilian side's vice president Odilio Rodrigues.

Santos vice president Odilio Rodrigues is confident that the Brazilian club will soon complete a move for AC Milan forward Robinho.

The 30-year-old started his professional career with Santos before moving to Real Madrid in 2005, and then on to Manchester City three years later.

"Although many Italian outlets have taken for granted the return of Robinho, I can confirm to you that negotiations are progressing well," Rodrigues told Santos TV.

"We are doing everything possible to sign the player and he has also lowered his initial demands.

"We have huge hope that the transfer will be complete soon. We hope to give the fans this gift as soon as possible."

Robinho also spent a period on loan with Santos in 2010.
