Jordan Rhodes feels that bad luck has played a part in Scotland's failure to reach a major competition since 1998.

Jordan Rhodes believes that the Scottish national team have had more than their fair share of bad luck over recent years.

The Tartan Army have not qualified for a major tournament ever since they competed at the 1998 World Cup in France.

However, ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Estonia, Rhodes has insisted that the history books may have read differently had the Scots enjoyed a more favourable rub of the green.

"I think we need a bit of luck to be honest," said the Blackburn Rovers striker. "When I was watching the games, particularly before I was even involved in the set-up, I was thinking a roll of the ball here or there or a decision by the referee. I think you can look back and see how many points are decided by the luck of the draw sometimes."

The match against Estonia will be Gordon Strachan's first in charge of the nation.
