Sheffield United boss David Weir insists that his players are not thinking about promotion this season.

Sheffield United boss David Weir has insisted that his players are not thinking about promotion this season.

United launched their League One campaign with a 2-1 win over Notts County on Friday, but the 43-year-old, who took charge in the summer, has calmed talk of a successful campaign.

"No, we don't. That's a long way away. I think we need to focus on the process rather than the result. That's the biggest thing for us. We need to focus on what we need to do in order to be successful, rather than just thinking about success and what it brings," he told reporters at a press conference.

"When we first came in, we spoke a little bit about the disappointment of the last two seasons. We addressed it and we can't pretend it didn't happen, but it's a new regime, a fresh start and the players have to shake that off.

"There's nothing surer in football than you're going to have disappointments, but it's how you respond to them."

United are next in action against Burton Albion in the first round of the League Cup on Tuesday.
