Mauricio Pochettino: 'Southampton owner Katharina Liebherr supports me'

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino insists that he has the full backing from owner and temporary chairwoman Katharina Liebherr.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that he has received backing from owner and temporary chairwoman Katharina Liebherr.

Doubts over Pochettino's position arose when chairman Nicola Cortese resigned from his post yesterday due to a conflict with the boardroom.

Following his departure, Pochettino, who has confirmed that he will stay on as manager, had a brief meeting with Liebherr today.

"I spoke [with Liebherr] for five minutes before the press conference," said Pochettino. "She transmitted her trust and support to me.

"She showed her support not only to me, but to all of my staff and everyone at the club. It's clear that I have a good relationship with Nicola. He agrees with my decision to stay."

The Saints are currently ninth in the Premier League table.
