Southampton and West Ham United are reportedly in the race for Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto, who will be allowed to leave the Brazilian club in January.

Southampton and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto in January.

The 23-year-old is a key first-team player for the South American outfit, starting 20 matches in the Brazilian Serie A during 2024, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

Alberto has also caught the eye on the continental stage for Corinthians, netting six goals in just eight Copa Sudamericana appearances this year.

With extensive experience in the youth teams of his nation, the forward earned his first-ever call-up for Brazil's senior team in March 2023, collecting his maiden cap.

Setting up Corinthians' first goal earlier this week, Alberto helped his side to a 3-0 win over Fortaleza, meaning that Ramon Diaz's troops will face either Athletico Paranaense or Racing Club in the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals.

Southampton, West Ham in pursuit of Alberto?

According to Brazilian outlet Trivela, a host of clubs from across the globe are interested in securing the services of Alberto during the January transfer window.

The report states that Premier League duo Southampton and West Ham are keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old's situation in the Brazilian Serie A.

It is understood that the Saints have been keen on Alberto since the start of 2024, submitting a bid for the player during the January transfer window.

Unable to get their target in the winter, it is said that Southampton tabled a loan offer with a £15m purchase option included during the summer, but Corinthians refused as they could not find a replacement in time.

However, it is believed that Timao are now ready to sell Alberto, with the Brazilian club willing to offload the striker during the upcoming January transfer window.

Premier League dream and Saudi interest?

As well as the Saints and the Hammers, clubs from the Middle East - potentially of the Saudi Pro League - are supposedly interested in Corinthians man Alberto.

However, the 23-year-old recently stated that in an interview that his heart is set on a move to the Premier League specifically when the time comes to leave South America.

"It is my dream to play in Europe, to compete in the Premier League, but everything has its time, and those who control this know everything," explained Alberto when questioned on his future at Corinthians.

"If I am here today, it is because there is something very big for me and for Corinthians."
