David Ginola: 'Tottenham Hotspur sent message to the world in Real Madrid match'

David Ginola claims that Tottenham Hotspur's performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League sent a message to "the world of football".

Former Tottenham Hotspur player David Ginola has claimed that the club sent a message to "the world of football" on Tuesday night in their performance against Real Madrid.

Mauricio Pochettino's men left the Bernabeu with a point due to his team playing out a 1-1 draw in their Champions League group match.

Harry Kane forced an own goal from Raphael Varane inside the first half-hour, but the North London outfit were unable to maintain their lead as Cristiano Ronaldo converted from the penalty spot.

Tottenham were in danger of conceding more goals, but some crucial saves from goalkeeper Hugo Lloris kept the team level with the reigning champions.

"It is not really the result itself, it is the message that they send to the world of football," Ginola told talkSPORT. "Spurs have been playing great football but they were not showing they were capable of taking European football by storm. Last night, they did.

"The performance was great, the setup was great, tactically they were brilliant. They were not stressed, they played like a very mature team, even with young players. Spurs are going in the right direction."

Both Tottenham and Madrid lead the way with seven points in Group H.
