West Bromwich Albion frustrate Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane as neither side score in the first period at White Hart Lane.

A dominant display in the first half has not been enough to give Tottenham Hotspur a half-time lead against West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane.

Gareth Bale almost gave the hosts the lead after only eight minutes, but his volley sailed over the Baggies goal after good work from Kyle Walker.

Rafael van der Vaart had the best chance of the half for Spurs but he failed to hit the target from inside the box after meeting Aaron Lennon's cross.

West Brom struggled to trouble the home side's defence, with Jan Vertonghen and William Gallas rarely being threatened.

Defoe could have scored his second goal of the season but his shot went safely past the post while Bale continued to trouble the Baggies defence as the first period drew to a close.
