Emmanuel Adebayor: 'We can still compete with the best'

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor feels that his side can still compete with the best teams in the Premier League despite their heavy defeat to Liverpool.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor is adamant that his side can match the best teams in the Premier League and finish in the top four this season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side had an excellent start to the campaign with victories over West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers, but were beaten heavily by Liverpool in their last outing at White Hart Lane.

However, Adebayor has insisted that despite the nature of the defeat, he believes that his side are more than capable of qualifying for the Champions League.

He told The Mirror: "We won against QPR at home and everybody was saying we were one of the best teams in the league. People were touting us as title contenders.

"But now we have lost against Liverpool, everyone is saying: 'Oh, they are not ready yet! They can't compete with the big clubs'. But we'll be back. There's a long way to go.

"To be fair to Liverpool they played some great stuff. I cannot say that they are unstoppable but they are one of the biggest teams in this league. But even they lost to Manchester City which shows you that anything can happen in this league. When you look at the top four it is still wide open and we want to be part of it."

Spurs face Sunderland in their Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light later today.
