Jermain Defoe describes David Beckham as "a legend" and says that the former England captain would be welcome at Spurs.

Jermain Defoe has revealed that he looks up to David Beckham and would welcome the Los Angeles Galaxy star at Tottenham Hotspur.

Beckham is poised to play his last match for the MLS franchise this weekend and the 37-year-old is targeting one more move in his illustrious career.

Monaco are believed to be leading the chase, but Defoe has claimed that he would love to link up with the former England captain at Spurs.

"He can come to Spurs if he wants - we'll have him here. He is a fantastic player and I think a credit to the game," Defoe told Absolute Radio's Rock 'N' Roll Football.

"If you talk about someone that's done everything in a game and to still want to play and still have another challenge and still want to achieve something, when you've achieved so much, I think that's a special person.

"He is someone that I look up to, a legend in the game."

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that a move for Beckham is unlikely.
